The Samyang 45 1.8 is excellent, and again not much more money. The RF 35 1.8 is much better all around, covering a much more challenging FOV, and costing not much more money. So one of the main advantages it has over slower lenses is pretty much wiped out. I'm not a pixel peeper, but the fall off in sharpness towards the edges on lenses like this is apparent even with light scrutiny. With any kind of foliage or water reflections in the background LoCA is apparent and basically impossible to correct. Most of my portraiture, especially with 50s and longer lenses, is outside and in daylight.

No, people don't only take photos wide open in low light. Way to be objective and hold all lenses to the same standards. So sharpness doesn't matter, but this lens will murder zooms on sharpness when stopped down. Again when performance is tempered by price performance is poor. But a bad lens is a bad lens and this is a bad lens. I sold my A7R2 in part because I found its MPs pointless. I'd rather just carry the zoom at that point.Īnd no I don't think one needs 40MP+ to be a real photographer. It only got decent stopped down to kit zoom speeds. The old 50 1.8 STM was mushy with tons of CA wide open. Again a prime should be at least decent wide open and I've had or used several relatively low priced lenses that were (RF 35 1.8, SY 45 1.8, EF 85 1.8). "It'S OnLy $100!!!!!" I wouldn't take one for free. You can get them for about $100-200 used. For example my EF 24-85 is a great zoom lens. Which doesn't exactly gel with what pros I meant to say they don't always go hand in hand. It's basically a remake of their EF 50/1.8. It's riddled with CA, has soft mid-frame even at 2.8, terrible corners until ~f/5.6. AwesomeDude Online AwesomeDude Stories by, for, and/or about LGBT People of All Ages. One of the worst prime lenses I've seen from Sony, Nikon, Panasonic, or Sigma as far as the new FF mirrorless goes. Stories by, for, and/or about Gay and Bi Young People. Panasonic is similarly releasing f/4 zooms and an 85/1.8 before tossing out some niche 85/1.2. I said Nikon's approach to releasing lenses was similar to what Sony did. Do you think the new Sony 50/1.2 is going to have low sales because people already have the 50/1.4 or 55/1.8? Hell no, it's going to be backordered.Ĥ) I wasn't talking about the new Sony. If someone wants an uber expensive, extremely unwieldy 28-70/2, or an 85/1.2, or 50/1.2, they will buy those when they come. 3) "People would pick up those f1.4s and they risk less sales on the high end"
